Duo Tobias Delius / Michiel Scheen

Tobias Delius’ musicianship can be described in one word: adventurous. His quest for surprise and suspense are the sources in his creative mind, which he uses to intensely fascinate his listeners with. Delius’ playing is self-confident and overwhelming. Whatever musical situation or event, Tobias’ identity and musical personality is very outspoken. He is an unique instrumentalist, with a beautiful and authentic sound, that you can’t but love.
With Michiel Scheen he finds a worthy partner. The idiomatic pianist is a barrel full of ideas; he suddenly can surprise the audience with a passage in the highest register of the piano. Scheen’s playing has his own solid base and consistency, with lots of dynamics and technique. Influences of Thelonious Monk and Cecil Taylor are alternated with the spatial elegance of Duke Ellington.
Together, Tobias and Michiel are looking for new musical ways, horizons and expressions, which they are capable of making them fascinating to follow. The program of the duo continually evolves, from original compositions to Ellington and Fats Waller.
